ID4Africa is a multi-stakeholder movement that promotes the transparent and responsible adoption of digital identity in the service of development in Africa. Governments have joined hands in an attempt to share experience and establish real-world best practices that set the correct expectations for what is involved in launching and sustaining successful identity programs.
The ID4AFRICA initiative is supported by the World Bank and UNDP in an attempt to transform individual expertise and experience into sustainable and collective knowledge for the benefit of the identity community in Africa.
The establishment of ID4Africa was motivated by the need to promote legal identity for all in Africa. There are
an estimated 500 million people without legal identity living in Africa. The Millennium development goals set targets to empower individuals to claim their rights and to benefit from the fruits of development. Giving Identity to the people of Africa is consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 16.9 and African governments are committed to meet this goal.
Digital ID Technologies are supporting several governments in Africa with their identity programs. The
main goal for many governments is to implement a national ID program that can produce a national ID card.
Digital ID Technologies has cutting edge technology for these ID projects that can ensure the highest level of security producing a national ID cards that is impossible to duplicate.
ID Cards should have multi-layered security features and offer a high level of visual security to make identification and verification possible without additional technology devices. National ID Cards are produced with all of this in mind to reduce the risk of illegal duplication of national ID cards and eliminate the risk of identity theft.
Digital ID Technologies is the ideal technology partner in this case as HID Fargo offer a wide range of products and embedded solutions to safeguard identity and manage the risks associated with illegal identification and identity duplication.
ID4AFRICA 2017 was the biggest gathering of pan African governments and solutions providers to date and the Digital ID Team are excited about the announcement that ID4AFRICA 2018 will be hosted by West Africa in Nigeria next year.
